"Now we see but a poor reflection;
then we shall see face-to-face.
Now I know in part;
then I shall know even as I am fully known."
1 Corinthians 13:12
"Think of what you were before you were called. Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many of you were influential; not many were of noble birth. But God alone choose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God choose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. He chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things - and the things that were not - to nullify the things that are, so that no one may boast before him. It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God - that is, righteousness, holiness, and redemption. Therefore, as it is written: 'Let him who boasts boast in the Lord.'"
1 Corinthians 1:26-31
With these verses, my 2009 goal to memorize 24 pieces of scripture is complete. I am still working to finalize the memorization, but I am very close. There have been very few New Year's goals that I have successfully completed, so I should be so proud and excited! I am not, though. Necessary changes in 2010 are on my mind! 2010 is my 40th year, and I am not feeling so good. Turning 40 doesn't bother me, but something doesn't feel right....
I have been contemplating how to approach 2010. Should I continue memorizing scripture? I am thinking that I it would be a good discipline to continue.... But, I would like to add another discipline. I would like to read through the Bible in a year. I have never completed such a challenge, though I have tried several times (One year, I even stayed on track through May! Who gives up such a challenge in May??). Another challenge I would like to attempt is strengthening a healthy physical lifestyle. My issue is that both reading the Bible in a year, and healthy eating/exercise is just so common!! And, I have failed so many times! Yuck!
Today is January 1st, so I am feeling the pressure to commit to a challenge. These are the three challenges I will begin with:
- Memorize 2 pieces of scripture a month.
- Initiate a plan for Reading the Bible through in a year (or more).
- Add a healthy discipline each season.
HAPPY NEW YEAR 2010!!

Hi, Heidi. It's the wife of Scott here (hee hee:) What an awesome opportunity to go see Beth Moore in Houston in 2010!!! You must tell me everything! My Bible Study Gals begin Beth's Esther study next Friday and I'm so excited! I've invited two of our Connect Group Gals, (the group that meets in our home every Tuesday evening)to attend with me. I admire your goal to read the Bible in 2010; I know you can do it! One of my goals for this new year is to potty train Lukie and eat more fish for lunch...and, by the way, and most importantly, to be a gentler version of myself. Oops, Lukie just came in the room complaining that he "almost got a boo boo..." Duty calls.
ReplyDeleteSee you Saturday. I'm excited to show you my new study Bible. Love, Scott's beloved :)
Hi! I found your website via Audrey's spreadsheet for the SSMTC. Can't wait to try to meet you and all the others in Houston.
ReplyDeleteI wasn't sure about memorizing scripture this year either. But, I decided to start a 1st & 15th scripture memory on my blog... two gals who I "mentor" asked me to...
I also tried to read through the Bible last year, but only made it half way through. I'm starting this year where I left off and hope to start a chronological Bbible once I'm done going through the NIV.
Happy New Year!
