Driven or Drawn: What's the Difference?

I am finishing a Bible study. Finishing a Bible study is hard. In the midst of a good Bible study, I am motivated to learn more, to hear God speak to me, to consider the author's perspective, to journal my own thoughts, and to persevere. When it's done, I am afraid of losing momentum. My current study, "Ruth: Loss, Love, and Legacy" by Kelly Minter, is perfectly suited to my current life. It has touched me, challenged me, and sustained me in numerous ways over the past few months.

The first scripture I journaled from from this study was 1 Timothy 4:8 (NIV):

"For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come."

Maybe I like this verse because I value godliness over physical training! Ha!

One of Minter's friends, a "NOG," (NOG stands for No Other Gods) wrote, "When it comes to my spiritual life, I feel more drawn than driven.... God does not create a frenzy of anxiousness within us where we're compelled to keep up, strive, and exist in a driven state to accomplish our own greatness. Instead, she described the quiet and peaceful process of God drawing us along in our journey" (p.74).

There are times when I feel driven to do or be something that I resist. Yet once I surrender, I immediately feel drawn. For example, I resisted the idea of moving the family again, but the discomfort I felt as a result of my resistance drew me to seek God more. In seeking God, He drew me to accept the idea of a move. When I feel driven for long periods of time, I lose heart. Being drawn brings me peace and hope!
